Holiday Style With Poppy Barley
If there’s one thing that’s consistent about me, I am truly a loyalist when I find a brand or product that I love. I have been wearing Poppy Barley for years upon years. They are an incredible, ethically-made, women-run Canadian company. Beyond that, their products truly last the test of time and have served me for years upon years. I have been wearing some of my Poppy Barley pieces for literally about 10 years now and they still look as good as new and wear as comfortably as they did the first day I put them on!
They recently launched a gorgeous knit wear line, including this Retreat ReSpun Mockneck that I’m wearing here. While I’ve been wearing their shoes and bags for years, I can now attest to their knitwear being produced with the same level of quality craftsmanship and timeless style that their accessories have been for years. Breaking down all of the looks I have here below – whether it’s for the holidays, a last minute Christmas idea (for other fellow Vancouver rights they’ve recently opened a West 4th location which is absolutely gorgeous if you need to run out somewhere in these last final days!) or to treat yourself after the holiday craziness closes, you really can’t go wrong with Poppy Barley.
First up what I like to call The Daytime Casual – something that you can wear for an office party at lunch hour, or for a quick lunch out with your girlfriends, or even a casual holiday get together at home! As mentioned, absolutely obsessed with the Retreat ReSpun Mockneck – it is a blend of cashmere and merino and it is so incredibly soft and unbelievably comfortable on. It’s the perfect cut to layer over skirts or tucked into denim, so versatile. I was so excited to try the Toujours Ankle Boots in Ash Brown Suede – I’ve been lusting after them on the website ever since they launched. Happy to report that these are my new go-to footwear for work or anytime I want to quickly elevate my outfit. They are actually so comfortable despite having a good heel height on them, but they are so chic on and really bring the best of both style and comfort. This brown suede goes with absolutely everything too, whether it’s black denim or a silk dress for a night out.
I like to think of this sleek and simple outfit or something I would wear for a girls night out. Things are a bit crazy right now because we are actually actively moving into a new place over the holidays (impeccable timing, I know), but ordinarily I will do a few different nights out with girlfriends and little Secret Santa exchanges. Adding a little dash of red makes it feel super festive, but I love how this whole look is anchored by black. The Decade Chelsea Boots are literally the most comfortable chelsea boots I’ve ever worn. They have a slightly higher cut which makes them perfect with dresses or skirts, but I’ve been wearing them non-stop with denim or even over my workout leggings to and from work.
What’s amazing about these is they’re actually water resistant, which is so critical here in Vancouver. There’s enough roominess to layer a good thick sock with them, but I especially love it like this really simply styled with an ankle sock – just styled with a dress and potentially some tights. Also obsessed with the Medium Day-to-Night big in Black Pebble. It is deceptively roomy inside, and has such a classic and simple silhouette. Crossbody is always an essential for me, not only because of daily commutes, but because I’m often wrangling Callum on either end of the day whether that’s drop off or pick up. I love that this offers so much function without sacrificing style, and best of all, you truly can fit so much in it!
Finally, a slightly more dressed up look, but still very cozy! Both the mockneck and the boots are back for this round but paired very simply with a silk skirt I’ve had for forever, as well as a faux fur draped over my shoulders for a bit more of a luxe, texture-driven feel. This is something I would totally wear to the ballet (or another festive night out), or to make for more styling options, I would even swap out the skirt for a dress and be able to drape the sweater over my shoulders as the party picks up and whatever venue it’s in heats up as well!
All these looks with a red lip of course, because while I’m shying away from more obvious holiday looks this year like sequins or on the nose red and green, I still want to feel a bit festive, and I feel like a quick red lip is the easiest way to make a really comfy look feel more elevated.
Again, I really cannot speak enough to Poppy Barley‘s exquisite quality, timeless style and best of all, truly ethically made staples. if you’re looking to invest in a great piece of footwear, a gorgeous new bag, or (as of this year!) beautiful knitwear that will last you for seasons upon seasons, please seriously consider this incredible brand. One that I really love and have been loyal to for years! If you follow me on Instagram, keep an eye out for something exciting coming to the feed tonight!
