Time Capsule
SHOP THE LOOK
I’m a creative type through and through but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that adding structure and organization to my naturally fluid, spontaneous patterns doesn’t actually restrict my creativity, but it helps it. Whether that means sitting down and writing under a deadline (I get my best work done on a 15 minute timer, I swear) or restricting my style choices, forcing myself to get creative with what I line up in my capsule closet, mapping things out has actually helped me get more creative work done and it’s helped me stay inspired. Click through to read about how I’m applying some limitations sartorially this fall and how you can too!

If you guys remember, last spring I completely redid my closet with Home Depot, which meant I had to get pretty honest with myself about my increasingly ridiculous wardrobe situation. Bag after bag of donations later, I had a wardrobe that was much cleaner, much more direct, but still not exactly inspiring a lot of new looks. Finally, last spring I realized how desperately I needed a capsule closet, a concept I’d read about lots but never actually put into practice.
Since then, one quadrant of my closet has been dedicated to my curated capsule line, which I update every few weeks. You might even notice if you scroll through my style section now that there is a general cohesion colour- and print-wise per season – that’s definitely no accident! I can’t stress enough how amazing it feels to put one day into snatching out the pieces I no longer need and donating them (which feels good too!), reassessing what I’ll be doing for the next few weeks, what I’ve been inspired by and what is appropriate season- and weather-wise and then adding in my curated selection.
This fall, you’ll notice a lot of taupes, camels, greys, blacks and a touch of navy throughout, with some deep purple or burgundy shades for a bit of colour. Lots of focus on knits and other texture, lots of flats (still recovering with my back!) so ankle boots will majorly factor in and focusing on really clean, minimalist silhouettes. This Rag & Bone look worn in celebration of an event at Nordstrom last week perfectly fits the bill: warm fall tones tempered with cool black.
Have you guys created a capsule line and if so, what do you have lined up for the season? If not, please give it a try! I swear it will free up so much time for you in your mornings and all in all, just inspire you to get creative sartorially and streamline your style choices.
I need to do a capsule closet too! I also need to go through my closest… but I think that'll take a few glasses of wine to get through 😐
I love your pants! I have been looking for that style!

Love your outfit! I went through my closet a couple of weeks ago and got rid of a lot of things. It was definitely needed and I feel way better now 🙂
I've never heard of capsule clothing but I'll definitely give it a try! Thank you for sharing 🙂
