This time last week I was sweltering in front of my laptop, directing two fans full-speed straight at my face. I’m actually usually pretty impervious to heat and even I was beginning to seriously wilt. Stupidly, I made an impulsive wish for Mother Nature to dial down the heat juuust a little bit – naturally, another thought immediately followed this wish that went something like this: “Damn it you moroooon, be careful what you wish for!! Just watch it pour all next week and it will all be your fault!” Of course, now I’m sitting here with a cashmere sweater on, a cup of tea and a serious chip on my shoulder. So without further ado, I’m now reintroducing the Art of Layering, this time for July’s somewhat unpredictable weather – click through to read the post!

Rain curse aside, the universe also sent me a bit of a silver lining among all these dark clouds because I have missed layering a bit and this has given me an opportunity to break out the layers again. While I love the ease of summer dressing (dress, shoes, bag, done) and summer is easily my favourite season in general, I do have a soft spot for layering and love the creativity involved with it. Since it’s still somewhat muggy out, summer layering is less focused on the thin layers that you need to make use out of during the fall/winter (for, you know, staying legitimately warm) and more about working a classic topper or two into your look in case the usually warm temps take a temporary turn for the worse.
Like so many other fashion conundrums, the timeless leather jacket saves the day again. Whether you’re in a classic Parisian chic look like this striped-top-and-skirt combo, a flouncy sundress, preppy shorts and a T, or any other number of potential combinations, a leather jacket will provide the warmth you need while still working with your entire summer wardrobe. I’ve worn this Walter Baker one obsessively since buying it last winter (very similar one at a great price here) but have my eye on a couple more options to buy before fall shopping madness begins…shop my picks below!
Have been planning an outfit just like this one! Looks great!

That jacket rocks, you look killer! I'm jealous of your week of cooler temps…it's been unbearable in NY lately. 90s and humid every day. I could use some layering weather.
