White Stripes
H&M top and sunglasses, heels c/o J.Crew,
As femme and timeless as it gets: my favourite Obakki skirt (I have it in 3 colours – not ashamed!), a striped top, my go-to heels this summer from J.Crew and the stunning new Grace bag by Roots, which is classic enough to work with this more womanly look but would look just as amazing with distressed jeans and a slouchy T-shirt (I’d opt for my favourite by Everlane). It’s taken me a surprisingly long time to find this classic and femme formula, but like most other women, it definitely took me years to learn how to properly dress for my body – click through to read more!
As a 30F, I’ve kind of always had a uniquely annoying challenge. Let’s just say I’ve become best friends with a whole world of minimizing bras (and I have to give major props to the lovely people at Diane’s for helping me find the right ones – if you’re in Vancouver, they’ll get you fitted perfectly!). Having said that, while minimizing pieces are definitely needed for any flowy or loose-fitting styles to get rid of the tent silhouette, sometimes you just want to celebrate what you’ve got (but to do so without looking like Ice T’s wife Coco).
That’s why I love this particular outfit (A-line skirt, fitted top and classic accessories, or any other femme looks with this general silhouette) because I feel like I can show off my shape a bit more than I usually do but it’s still very demure and elegant. I always feel confident and womanly in this general look but never over-exposed.
You’d think that as simple as this outfit is, I would’ve discovered it way earlier, but noooooo…I honestly have so many photos floating around that induce an immediate cringe reaction. I think I spent the better part of my late teens/early 20’s nailing the Kim Kardashian circa 2010 look for every night out and then would usually spend my days in some vintage get-up that would make me look 20 pounds heavier. It was a real roller coaster ride.
A big part of finally getting it right was just finding the right bra style (and size) to be totally honest, but a lot of it also had to do with coming to a place of acceptance. I’ve always been pretty happy with my body on its own, i.e. in its natural state or in a bikini – I work hard for it and I’m not embarrassed to say I’m proud of it. But carefully studying how my body looks in clothes and understanding its limitations while also allowing myself to explore different aesthetics and styles – that is where acceptance can happen, and it’s also where you can allow yourself to have fun with trends and styles while always staying true to your body type.
Do any of you have a formula you go for when you want to really highlight your favourite feature?

You look fabulous. I love this look. And I've been reading your blog for a while now – at the risk of sounding creepy, you totally rock bikinis and you SHOULD be proud of yourself. I love these more feminine silhouettes too. I love this kind of look for myself because I don't have a super defined waist, and I find that with a fitted top and fuller skirt, I can give myself the illusion of a better shape. 🙂
I've only just started to get interested in fashion, and am still figuring out what works for my body type. Hopefully with time I can look as confident and amazing as you!
I love the skirt and top together:)

Gorgeous outfit, so classic! I love how it pops against the blue background. Loving your lip colour as well 🙂
This outfit is so classic and pretty! And I can definitely sympathize with trying to get the right shape for less fitted garments! I'm a 30H, and I've never been able to pull of straighter styles. Thankfully, I love the classic shapes much better, so I don't worry about it too much!
I love the striped top!
