If your holiday season is anything like mine, in a single day, you’ll be running from a morning full of meetings at work to a lunch date with a friend to the dentist to cocktails with girlfriends to a festive event or party. Gah…even just typing that out made me exhausted, and the holiday season has barely even started! So what does a working, busy girl do? You dress for every occasion without missing a beat, of course. The secret? Layers, layers and more layers (strategic layers, that is). Read on to see how we’ll take one outfit by Rachel by Rachel Roy and style it three ways for three different occasions

I tend to do a lot of catching up with friends during my lunch hour since time is usually tight in the evening with events or other post-work happenings, and a femme-meets-slouchy look like this one is perfect for the occasion (but pleaaaase do yourself a favour and wear tights, I stupidly walked out the door on what began as a sunny, not-too-chilly day sans tights and ended up freezing to death once the clouds crawled in!!!). The real crux of this look? The textures! I love the way this perfect cropped nubby sweater works with the houndstooth mini skirt, silk top and boho print of the sweater coat – it’s like a big mixing pot of mod, hippie, Parisian chic and classic.

I mean, I didn’t really pull any major tricks here on you. HINT…I took off my sweater coat! But even though it was just the shedding of one piece, removing such a major statement piece gives the outfit an entirely different vibe, helping to streamline everything for a perfect cocktails-apropos look (again, feel free to add in tights depending on the proximity of your car, whether or not you’re bar hopping, etc). This look is cozy yet still sleek and sexy thanks to the miniskirt’s fitted silhouette. Keep the roomy tote for now but stow away a little ladylike purse as you head out to…

Now that you’ve shed down to your last layer, you can party in style with this swingy slit-back blouse from Rachel by Rachel Roy and the real workhorse of this whole ensemble: this houndstooth mini skirt, which by now has more than payed its dues! With one standout necklace (I’ve been wearing this one from LOFT obsessively lately) and a pop of colour via this ladylike Mary Nichols bag, you’re set for an office party, industry event or celebrations with friends!

And there you have it! A non-stop, all-day ensemble that will take you to just about any event or happening the holidays throw at you. Here’s my shortlist of outfit transition musts to help you get through the day:

{ Tieks flats to swap in and out of while running around }
{ a couple different shades of lippie to help mix things up throughout the day }
{ a little ladylike bag or clutch to whip out for the evening }
{ a Goody spin pin in case you opt for an updo at some point }
{ Batiste dry shampoo }
{ travel size of your favourite scent }
{ Starbucks napkins, which are the best blotting papers! }
{ this Obakki Foundation x bkr bottle to stay hydrated (plus it’s for a good cause!) }
