H&M cardigan & skirt, Zara blouse & booties,
scarf c/o Joe Freshbag c/o Mary Nichols

As a creature of laziness, when asked by FASHION Magazine what my go-to sweater pick is for these colder months, I immediately thought of my ol’ kill-two-birds-with-one-stone piece: my men’s cardigan. Spotted on sale in H&M’s men’s section in a size XXXXXXL (or something like that), I immediately knew I had to nab it up because a. it was really cute (who doesn’t like a chunky grandpa knit?) and b. I knew that I’d be able to throw on a gazillion layers underneath it all winter long and work it as a sweater jacket. With a pop of red, polka-dot-speckled blue and a classic black skirt, the sweater is femme-d up enough to feel like me. For more sweater styling inspo, check out the rest of the Style Panel’s looks as well!
Speaking of other bloggers/the blogging world in general, the other day while flipping through my Instagram feed trying to find a particular snapshot to show a friend (trying to prove how cute I was as a baby despite her reservations), I had a sudden realization: “This feed is my life…but this also isn’t my life.” I was maybe a couple drinks in so it felt really profound at the time despite being a pretty disjointed thought, but basically the gist of it is that while it’s unsurprising that most of us bloggers add a filter to our lives so that you don’t see us typing away at our laptops in PJ’s or doing cross-nation phone meetings with brands while lying in bed (guilty for both over the last week), even when I’ve made a conscious effort to disclose more than usual and try to add as much authenticity as possible to my content, my life as captured through a lens still looks so much more elevated than my actual life.
I guess it’d be hard to properly document me in my natural, deranged state all the time, for example yelling “HOT DAD ALERT” the other day while taking a picture of said dad to show my friends in WhatsApp (fortunately Matt, mortified and seriously concerned about the legality of the whole taking-a-picture-of-a-person-in-public situation, intervened)…but it did make me wonder if it’s worth being a bit more open about the “non-pretty” parts of life where and when possible. Well, at least to a degree – while people don’t need to know everything, there are some things that I feel are worth opening up about more often in the event that other people are thinking about them or going through similar situations themselves.
On that note, I’m taking part in a shoot next week for RAW Beauty Talks, a local group that’s getting some of Vancouver’s media types to sit in front of a camera completely makeup free (oh, and no Photoshop afterwards). While I’m pretty minimal when it comes to makeup, due to a dog bite scar and some sun damage, I do always like to even out my skin tone with some concealer before heading out…so this should be interesting! But despite my nerves, I think it’s such a great conversation to be a part of, especially in an industry that places such a high premium on looks!
What do you guys think – do you like your bloggers to inspire you, serve as a relatable personality or do you like them to do a bit of both?

I personally like a little of both. Reading of others going through things like you do, encourages you it shows you that you are not alone and makes things more bearable. Also when it comes to fashion bloggers I believe inspiration is important not only to inspire with the outfits you put together but with the stories behind it.

lol @ the hot dad comment. and blogging is generally completely filtered — it's what we want others to see.

In this era of Internet and reality television, I think that "too much information" has become the norm. Do I sometimes get caught up in it?! Of course I do!! Do I think it's a good idea?! Ummm…maybe not so much!! Of course, sharing is a great way to "connect;" but a little mystery can be very intriguing, too!! In a public forum, I think some scrupulous editing will always have its merits. And speaking of…I love the way you've taken these photos with your little red bag in front of those red-framed windows!! You won't ALWAYS be standing next to them when wearing that bag…but it captures a pretty moment perfectly!! That's the kind of sharing that I like best!!

I do believe this is the Granville Island Kids Market in the background!

I don't talk about the warts-and-all view of my everyday life on the blog because, well, what sort of fashion blog reader wants to know about Darwin Information Typing Architecture and the logistics of software as a service (SaaS) delivery? Exactly.

It's so interesting to read other bloggers opinions on this, I feel that way looking through my blog sometimes, that this isn't really my real life. It's a very small portion and is portrayed in the most flattering light, which is usually why I include bloopers every now and then, makes me feel a little more like me. Because in real life I am a goof who makes inappropriate penis jokes.
LOVE this oversized sweater, what a great piece, seriously I think I need to run out and buy a mens sweater asap. Or steal a mans. I love how it's masculine but still super girly 🙂

Nothing like a grandpa-esque sweater for winter days. Especially when it has elbow patches!
