Fortunately, I’ve been pretty lucky to be largely surrounded by amazing women. I was raised with two sisters who have strong and awesome personalities, girlfriends who are as supportive as they are ambitious (and any who weren’t aren’t part of my life anymore) and a great role model like my mum, who is incredibly smart, successful and a real beauty after four kids if I may say so myself (and strong…she kicks my ass in the gym). I also have a network of amazing industry friends who I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with and grow with as our blogs/careers develop. Yes, part of having these women in my life is luck, but a lot of it is intentional too (other than my family, that’s just luck).
Personally, I want to be surrounded by strong, supportive and inspiring women because it pushes me to grow in a healthy way myself. A great read on this topic is Shine Theory: Why Powerful Women Make the Greatest Friends – definitely worth checking out. Life’s too short to not be surrounded by incredible people who inspire you, and conversely, to deal with people who bring you down.
And speaking of shine, even if someone ever does treat you less-than-amazingly, just wear neons and a bright lipstick. It always does the trick. This Rachel Mara hot pink blouse has been a summer favourite of mine, and with these neon Tieks and my favourite bfrend bracelet, this bright-on-bright-on-bright look is a really fitting ode to the end of the summer.

That's so wonderful you have so many amazing women in your life!! I really wish I had sisters, don't get me wrong I love my brothers but they are a little lacking when it comes to emotional understanding sometimes.

I agree! Strong woman make the best friends! It's the women who have ambition and who know who they are that I consider the nicest people. They don't have to be mean to get what they want and that's something to admire.
