This is about as “dressed up” as I get these days, which might seem like a weird thing to say given that this really isn’t dressed up at all. If you saw my usual go-to uniform lately, then you’d understand. I’ve been wearing the same too-big style of shorts, the same belt and then the same linen tank tops in a variety of colours day after day after day (well, not in a gross way where I’m not changing/washing – I buy go-to styles in bulk, don’t worry!). Ordinarily, I’d be a bit concerned that I have fallen into a style rut of sorts (or more accurately, a lack-of-style rut), but as we move into the later days of summer and the days begin to end earlier and earlier, in turn I’m just caring less and less about looking pulled together and more concerned about squeezing in as much summertime fun as possible.

This weekend was a great example of that: I went to a housewarming patio party, sunbathed at my favourite beach with my sister, shopped and hung out at the farmer’s market, had a patio party at my own place to take in the fireworks, went flea market shopping (and landed the coolest/most random thing ever), had a few of my loves over for brunch and then also squeezed in time to do my first at-home gel mani (major success!). I did it all in iterations of the same uniform detailed before and I’m totally happy about that fact.

So as much as I love fashion and am a firm believer in the need to play around and explore style, I also think that sometimes, playing outside can and should override time that would have otherwise been put to use shopping or playing in one’s closet (I have closet hours set aside during the cooler months just so I can play around with different outfits…this is nonexistent in the summer). That means I even go into auto-drive when I have an even to go to, like the other week when I was going to a Joe Fresh store opening party: wedges + a cotton dress from Gap Canada + minimal jewelry = summer-apropos yet pulled together with little to no thought.

Do any of you also rely on a uniform around this time of year?

Right now I am in the midst of a move so my uniform is basketball shorts and some type of top. That dress makes you look like you are all legs, jealous!

Fun is more important than looking good. I've been wearing loose cotton dresses for the past 2 months!

Normally my style is a little my dressed up, but since it's been so hot I've just been wearing simple dresses and shorts with a t-shirt. It's too hot to put any thought into my clothing right now! I love this outfit and will definitely be copying it! 🙂

My summer uniform (not including work clothes) is maxi dress + sandals and that's about it! So I'm obviously a fan of this 😉

I've been wearing some variation of "dress, sandals, bag, minimal jewelry" in my outfit posts for several weeks now.

You look fabulous in that dress and I think it's the perfect amount of "dressed up." It's summer time, things should be easy and I feel you about not wanting to fuss about looking pulled together. Your weekend sounded amazing, hope you have an equally wonderful week ahead!
