Sunshine Coast Diary

I feel very lucky that I have a place in this world that is truly a retreat for me. I often find that even when we go “on vacation,” we’re still always working, or at the very least thinking about work or other affairs. Having my family’s cabin on the Sunshine Coast is such a blessing because for whatever reason, whenever I’m there I really can just entirely let everything go. I don’t stress, I sleep well, I recharge and most importantly, I play. Last weekend my brother and I went on a legitimate seafaring adventure – we canoed out with a bunch of beer out to these isolated rocks in the middle of the ocean, dragged our canoe up on a little perch, stumbled upon a family of otters sun sunbasking (they left their post on the rock but watched us from the ocean after), suntanned on a big rock slab and found a little sheltered cove to swim in. It was pretty amazing.
As this moving post by Kendi Everyday suggests, it’s important to know when enough is enough and when to cut back a bit. Whether you’re a blogger with a full-time job like me, a packed course load, a crazy freelancing gig, little ones at home or even busy enough with blogging that you manage to do it full-time, I think most of us can agree that this “hobby” can sometimes more closely resemble a second job. Burn out is a real thing and I was close to hitting it a few months ago when I was pushing too hard, so giving myself more weekends at the cabin, scaling back here and there and just trying to unwind more day-to-day has done wonders.

Do you have a special place in the world where you can really unwind?

Oh pally… if I told you I knew how to unwind, I'd be lying 🙂 I'm as relaxed as I've ever been here in Paris, but I don't think that remotely compares to the letting go you do on the Sunshine Coast. The pictures you share of your adventures there are always exquisite. Miss you!

It's amazing how much you do over the weekend – it's great! That cabin of yours sounds so heavenly you are extremely lucky to have it!

My home is usually my place of rest and relaxation, however I did find that when I went to Mauritius last year (and because it was purely a beach holiday and there was no shopping) I relaxed so much it definitely made me feel at peace.

Lovely! These pictures make me want to sunbathe and swim and go out on a canoe too. You're so lucky to have a place you can go to unwind. It's so true that blogging is like a second job because it takes up so much of our time. We always need to remember to let go and relax sometimes!

Looks like the perfect getaway from the everyday!

As for burnout, I hear you. I think I hit it pretty hard in the first few months of this year, what with demanding work projects and keeping up with the blog. I've been juggling a full-time job with blogging for 6 (!) years now, but having to do the work of two or sometimes three people at work on top of the blog was killing my spirits. I'm only starting to feel more like myself now.

Oh my goodness… that looks like paradise to me! I can totally see from the pictures how that could be a place where you can just turn off your brain and relax. And otters?! I'm so jealous, I love to see wild animals in nature, but the best I've gotten so far are foxes and moose.

I can't say I have a location like that around where I live, but about 4 hours away where my grand-parents home is, there's this massive lake where I went as a kid. When I got there, I'm at peace. I don't know what it is about it, but the lake is so still and quiet, it just makes me happy. I'm going there in august (and bringing the boy for the first time!) and cannot wait!

Love these types of posts! Keep 'em coming! 🙂

oh my word! that looks stunning and just perfect you lucky thing you! Sunshine coast is going on my list of places to visit. I totally agree with the last paragraph and that's why when I went on vacation this time I didn't post on my blog or do any kind of work I just relaxed for 7 days and it was the best feeling ever!

I have to admit Im super envious of having such a wonderful place to just unwind at! but my perfect place to relax was always my family trips to Maui! that and taking a drive up to squamish through the backwoods exploring with the boyfriend
