Basic, classic, timeless. Just a few words to describe the pieces I keep going to time and time again this winter: a beautifully cut coat by Wilfred from Aritzia, a ladylike but sturdy bag from Mary Nichols, stripes aplenty whether they show up on a sweater, shirt, gloves or here on this dress from Boutique Onze and last but not least, touches of leopard, seen here in my unbelievably comfy and cute flats from Tieks by Gavrieli (seriously a little obsessed with this Italian leather footwear line, an addiction that’s only gotten worse since receiving a new pair of stunning ballet flats late last week!).
I don’t mind looking “basic” sometimes, or often, really. It’s not possible or desirable to be putting your imagination and inspiration to the task when styling every day (unless you’re Daphne Guinness). If, like me, you like to take your weekends to stroll around town looking put together without having to put any thought into dressing at all, then having a roster of tried-and-true classics is essential. What I like about go-to classics is that they’re so personal: while flats or wellies (when it’s raining) are my classic, no-brainer picks for footwear, other people might default to riding boots or even cowboy boots. By the same token, though stripes are always intrinsically classic to me, other people might need a completely solid white T. It all depends on the person and knowing what will make you feel most like yourself while looking pulled together in a flash.
So with that, happy weekend! Hope you have a couple stylish but easy days filled with relaxation, good food, catch-up’s with friends, or whatever else you like to do best :). I don't think this outfit is basic at all! It certainly has basic elements to it, but because the fit of the coat and dress is right for your body and because you love this outfit it elevates it in a way. Takes it from basic to classic!

Nothing wrong with the classics! I have more than a few no-brainer days where I depend on them to look put together with minimal effort. In fact, I have a striped J. Crew dress that I've worn with a cognac leather belt in the past; great minds think alike about foolproof combos.
