Passing the Hat
Club Monaco dress, H&M booties, Aldo hat, Rebecca Minkoff bag
Here’s my FASHION Magazine Style Panel contribution for the week: hats! Well, more specifically, how to style hats in a day-appropriate, chic way (i.e. not just for beachwear). I actually have a tricky time with hats because I have an abnormally small head (well, not abnormally but it is petite) and I find that big floppy hats always move around too much and are just straight up cumbersome. Cue in: the straw fedora. Always easy to wear, lightweight (which is a sartorial requirement right now in Toronto heat) and it fits my little teeny tiny head!
Anyway, I just realized that I’m more than halfway through my summer here in TO and it kind of terrifies me…I know this is an annoying question, but seriously where on earth does the time go? Two months have flown by here without me even notiicing, and I can only expect that the next two will race by even more quickly.
This isn’t 100% but as it stands right now I think I’d like to stay here longer – I love Vancouver so much and it will always be home, but I feel like things just feel “right” and good since I’ve moved, and as much as I love the West Coast, maybe I need to be somewhere else for awhile. There’s something that’s very comfortable about living in Vancouer; in fact, it’s so comfortable it almost becomes feels like a Venus fly trap sometimes. It can be really hard justifying or making an effort to leave a place that has everything (mountains, ocean, forests all right next to a metropolitan downtown core), especially when your friends and family are there. But I’ve always been a big believer in the adage that change is good and so far, I think that rings true for this move. Anyway, nothing is confirmed yet but given that I’ve mostly committed myself to a longer-term move, it will be interesting to see how things go from here!
Happy hump day everyone!!
Love this look- especially the booties and the belt- I'll be copying this one for sure 🙂
And I am happy that you are thinking in the long-term- you are so young, this is the perfect time for you to do this!
Also, you inspired me to read The Happiness Project- I started last night@!
very simple but very chic! love this look!

Love the way you styled the hat – I need to get a bit more adventurous with hats. I can never seem to find one that looks good on me (mostly because I don't look hard enough, I think). And I know how you feel about moving – when I decided to move away from Edmonton 6 years ago it was a huge decision and it was scary but also really exhilarating. And I am so glad that I did move to Connecticut. Edmonton will always be my home (and now I'm actually moving back there for a few months) but the opportunity to live on the East Coast and in the US and to be so close to NYC was just too good to pass up.

Seriously where does time go?! I can't believe the summer is halfway done already. I love this outfit, such a perfect summer look. You definitely rock that hat, and the belt is great too. I rarely wear hats, I have a ridiculous amount of hair to try to stuff under them.

Cute as always 🙂

Aw, this post made me so happy, my lovely pal – it's so good to hear that things are going well in Toronto and you're enjoying moving outside of your comfort zone. Of course, the outfit you're wearing helped, too. I think you know my not-so-secret love of this dress very well. The addition of the bright Vegas Vibe lip is a brilliant touch. I doubt I could pull the colour off without a lot more tan, but you have me tempted to try, anyway 🙂 Miss you!
xox,

Such a cute outfit that works for a casual day too! I love the accessories like your hat, bag, and belt. Definitely completes this chic look.

I totally agree with you on Vancouver being a Venus fly trap. I never thought I'd actually stay when I first moved here and now I feel like I can't leave… I'm glad you've enjoyed your time in Toronto so much and it must be kind of fun to not know what the future has in store just yet.

I have the opposite problem, my head seems to be to big to find hats
You look lovely with one on!:)
Don't tell me how time passes, I wonder every other day, crazzzzyyyyyyyy!
xx claude
That's cute that you say you have a petite head; I'm in the same boat! My husband always makes fun of me and says he has a bigger, juicier brain 😉 You look very chic in the fedora! I find hats intimidating to wear but I'm kind of itching to try a look like this. And I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Toronto and am thinking of staying there longer-term! I think you're only young once and if the city is treating you well with opportunities knocking at your door, you should take it 🙂

I have the same problem with hats and have one straw fedora- perfect for summer 🙂
I think that's a good move if you're feeling inclined to stay in TO! Vancouver is a place that breeds complacency if you've been here too long b/c it is to awesome, so kudos to you for making the leap into the unknown!
the outfit is simple yet so fun and stylish! wohoo hats are fun, i wish they're more wearable in Jakarta!

I love how effortless this is. I'm so happy you feel right about TO. I love that Canada has so many places that can feel like home. Although, I do miss your outfit pictures on the rocky beaches. I loved those.

My kind of look! Comfy and super chick. When did you get the dress? I shop a lot at CM, but have not seen this one..
Exactly! Where does the time fly?? I feel the same way. Vancouver sounds like a great city. I got to visit it one day soon.

What a great look,
gorgeous dress,
love the cuff and boots.
I'm also a huuuuge fan of the fedora. So damn easy to wear with pretty much everything! So much so that I have three… LOL. Anyways, love this summer look! Despite the heat, you look like you're just breezing by because the outfit is so light and effortless.
I totally understand about the whole Vancouver thing; I'm so nervous to leave in January!

It definitely shows that you are feeling pretty inspired, I also have the feeling that you've been posting far more than before… Is that right? It might just be that I am more often behind on my post reading and therefore it seems like I have so much to catch up on 😉 Anyway…
This is such a fun summer outfit! The fedora hat is fun, in fact it's the only hat I really wear every now and then (during summer). And yes, to the beach, but perhaps I should give it a try and style it for "normal" days.
Hope you're having a great week so far! xo Leonie
