Matt and I’s quick decision to get out of town for our anniversary was a great one. We had such an amazing time relaxing at the cabin, spending our days walking around some of my favourite places on the Sunshine Coast and eating our way through all the cute little cafés and restaurants dotting the waterfront. Though we still have four days to go until our actual anniversary, it was the perfect way to celebrate four years together (craziness), even if it was a bit early. Considering the fact that I used to consider myself a commitment phobe, four years out of our relatively short lives have surprisingly flown by without me even realizing it (and I think the commitment phobia flew out the window awhile ago as well). I’m going to go ahead and assume that’s a good thing.
The one thing about the weekend that did not go well was us canoeing for the first time together. I guess I’m used to canoeing with someone like my sister who’s more equal to me in terms of strength, because the minute Matt decided to start paddling, we spent about fifteen minutes going in circles. The couple going for a sunset walk on the beach probably really enjoyed me freaking out in the middle of the ocean as our canoe tipped precariously from one side to the other, again and again and again and again.
Word from the wise: no matter how much you weight lift, if your boyfriend is about twice your size…just stay away from canoes. No one wins in this situation…unless you get to just sit and drink beer while he does all the paddling, which is what we decided on after we scared the couple off the beach. Win-win!
Hope you lovelies had a great weekend too!
One little update: I’m over at Says Skippy today too with a guest post detailing some of my favourite styling tricks. Check it out!

This sounds like an amazing getaway and the perfect thing to do for your 4 year anniversary (Congrats!!). I love the layering you have going on here, the sweater and collard top are perfect with this skirt and leather jacket. These photos are so incredible too!

Hahaha! Your canoe experience totally reminds me of when David and I went tandem biking together. That did not go well and I definitely had a freak out that was probably reminiscent of what happened to you on the lake 😉 regardless, happy 4th year to you at Matt! That is quite an achievement and I wish you two many more joyful years together. Your outfit is so lovely too- I love the unconventional layering you've done and you always look so good in earthy tones. Thanks for the extra ideas on how to style the Angela!
Have a great week lovely!

PS, I also just launched my new site and blog, I'd love to get your feedback on it! 🙂
Happy Anniversary! Your getaway sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate! And drinking beer while Matt does all the canoeing work sounds perfect! That's exactly what I would want to do. This outfit is gorgeous. The booties are fab and I love that the jacket toughens up the whole look a bit!
Happy Four Years! Sounds like a perfect getaway, even with the canoe incident 🙂 Congrats also on your feature on the B-Insider!!!

I am seriously in love with all the different ways that you've worn our skirt, pally- it's given me so much inspiration for how to restyle mine 🙂 Sounds like you and Matt had a lovely (pre-)anniversary celebration, apart from the canoeing. Since I will never, ever get into a boat, with or without Ian, I will just have to take your word for the paddling in circles part. Hope your week is off to a fabulous start – can't wait to see your beautiful face on Saturday!
xox,
Cee
Yes, I'm all for the guys doing all the canoe paddling! I can imagine this funny sight with you two in the canoe. Your weekends always sound so fun and adventurous! These photos are incredible!
Beautiful soft light on this shoot. Love you in that rust colour too. lol sorry about your bad canoeing experience w/the BF and glad you guys didn't tip over!
Saw your feature on The Bay's blog – congrats! And thx for your kind words about the Flare feature – I was surprised by it since I don't blog very much and certainly not as much as the other ladies there!
Maui: if you like nice consistent 3-5 fts that are easy to catch, and long rides, check out the reef break at ukumehame beach. I think it's called thousand peaks or something. No crowds but watch the reef if you bail. Lahaina is good for beginners but can be super crowded and full of beginners. Head to Paia only if you know what you're doing. Launiupoko beach park is nice for longboards/mini-mals. Avoid north west breaks – heard they're sharky. Let me know how it goes!!!
Sounds like a fun getaway. Con congratulations on 4 whole years! Your outfit is great. I love the booties.

You made me laugh when you explained how very frustrating canoeing can be when you are with someone of unequal strength. I have had exactly the same experience. However, I was out in the ocean during a cyclone weather warning. So I freaked out when it took so long to come back to shore! Your outfit is so cute and I love your cropped sweater!
Glad you were able to get away! By the way, happy anniversary!

I totally saw some statues in Urban Outfitters two months ago dressed exactly like this just with a bit more color. I liked it so much, I took a photo, but I've never found the right sweater. Which is to say this look is beautiful! And your canoing experience sounds exactly like mine. I kind of freaked out and didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing.
