Back Up and Running
I saw this pop up on my Pinterest over the weekend and the timing couldn’t have been better. I was really hoping for one opportunity to work out and found out Friday that as a result of some circumstances that I can’t control (which can sometimes make things feel all the more frustrating), it wouldn’t. It was really upsetting and I felt a bit low over the weekend, but if the past 3-4 years have taught me anything, it’s that oftentimes these closing doors do in fact lead to opening (yes) windows.
I’m not happy-go-lucky by nature and have to bust my ass to catch my negativity as it pops up and replace it with positivity. Having said that, I really believe that we have more power in making our choices than we’re aware of – whether you’re a pessimist looking to change or a night owl who needs to switch up your circadian rhythm, even the things that are “hard-wired” in us can be changed. As much as I’ve felt tempted to give into negativity about this situation past this weekend, I gave myself an expiration date on negativity and today is a blank slate, i.e. the perfect opportunity to tap back into my momentum, draw up some new plans and get going again.
Anyway, sorry for the long-winded spiel – I’m a big believer in holding yourself accountable for your intentions/goals/resolutions by making them public, so thank you in advance for your virtual hand-holding!
On a far more joyful note, poring over these outfit snaps could not make me happier because they were snapped at my cabin last week, and it’s hard not to feel cheery there. It’s definitely one of my happy places (along with Maui, Granville Island and the Distillery District in TO). Nothing is as therapeutic as being near the ocean, so even when I go to the cabin and do virtually nothing but watch the wildlife go by (this time we saw orcas, sea lions, seals, eagles and deer…oh my!), I always feel so rejuvenated and relaxed by the time I leave.
Hope you all had a happy weekend and that your week’s off to a great start!
I am so envious of you, pally – you have two capes that look fabulous on you! Every cape I've ever tried gives me T. Rex arms 😛 And the combination of your green blazer and bordeaux blouse is just lovely. Sorry to hear about the opportunity, I'm pretty sure I know which one you're referring to, didn't work out the way you'd hope 🙁 But it just means a better one will come along! We must skype soon – miss you tons!

I love that you gave yourself an expiration date for how long you could be negative. That is such a great idea when battling that type of emotion!
Surprising that positivity can be such a hard thing to get into the habit of (ahhh) but I agree with you. It is important that we keep our thoughts positive… roll with the punches. Have a great week!
I love this so much, it's really great that you set a expiration date.Good luck in the new year! xo, Maria
Nice look, I love you coat!

Happy Monday! I completely understand how frustrated one can get when plans don't follow through. But I too have learned to keep going and not dwell too much on what didn't happen. So the best of luck on the windows that will surely open soon.
This outfit is gorgeous!

We create our own happiness and positivism plays a big part in it. Plus, it's always better to have something half full instead of half empty right? I guess we should stay positive even when everything goes the wrong way!
On a lighter note, I love your outfit! I need to find a great blazer that is not boring black and I can see how green is simply perfect!

This is a great post!! I am not really the most positive person all the time, but when I catch myself being negative i try to make it into some sort of weird joke which makes everyone and myself laugh and therefore we're all positive. Haha, that works, right?!
I love this blouse and your jeans, such great pieces and you always look so effortlessly gorgeous

Your writing is very inspirational. It's easy to let the negative things take over and to be down on yourself, but you need to stay positive and not let missed opportunities haunt your life! I love it!
I also adore your outfit- that coat is sensational!
2013 is going to be your year, just keep on staying positive and looking for those opening windows!

Happy belated new year, hope everything works out for you. I'm sure 2013 will be a great one for opportunity and I agree when 1 door closes, another opens. I'm a firm believer of this simple, yet effective quote: You can't change the past because its gone, you can't predict the future since it has yet to come, all you have control over is how you enjoy the present moment.
And I agree with you, nothing beats just being @ the beach or hiking, to reflect and rejuvenate yourself.
Gorgeous! I love the cape!! Hope everything works out okay for you!:)

I'm not uber happy and bubbly by nature either and I don't really pretend to be but I do try to place my life and events in perspective to the world at large. You are beautiful and lovely and something better is coming your way! Wendy from Thankfifi once told me that "What is meant for you will not pass you!"
Also I so want to be at that cabin! I have been obsessing over a blog that features so much nature I am slowly wanting to go hike in the snow! Also …your Instagram of the whale didn't help me! 🙂

You do have the power to change your thoughts. It takes a little practice, but you've got the right attitude. Looking at favourite photos are one very powerful way to improve thoughts. And these pics make me feel more cheery and positive, so I can only imagine how great they make you feel knowing that this is your space!
Okay, Maui and Granville Island are two of my favourite places, so now I feel I must get to TO's Distillery District. I'm sure I'll love it too.
