When It Started

Twenty8Twelve leather jacket, H&M tank, Club Monaco camisole & clutch,
tights c/o Pink Beryl, earrings c/o Brooklyn Designs, J.Crew skirt, bracelets c/o JewelMint

There’s something that’s just so right about green, black and leopard together. While I feel like the combo is in itself a bit of a retro nod to ’40s style, I especially love it given a modern spin, with tough elements and current silhouettes thrown in to give it some balance.

This whole look was inspired by these Brooklyn Designs earrings, really. It’s how I always map out my outfits – I take one element that sparks my inspiration and then build a look centred around it. Take this look from last week for example: I really just loved the idea of a neon jolt of colour tempered by eathier neutral tones, so I grabbed my new neon yellow Joe Fresh sweater and created a look around it. This look, on the other hand, was driven by a desire to create a fully monochromatic look – I’d been inspired by the amethyst top resting against a burgundy skirt and decided to create a more urban translation of that accidental combo.

Anyway, I was really struck by the classic opulence of the green onyx and gold of these earrings, so from that I piled on a luxurious pair of Pink Beryl tights, layered, dark-toned tanks, a sliver of emerald green via this much-loved wool skirt and my go-to leather jacket.

If any of you have been reading my blog for awhile, then you’ll be very proud of me…I’m finally starting to go to bed before midnight! For first-timers, pretty much I’m the most extreme case of a night owl you could ever find. I’ve never suffered from insomnia exactly but I’ve always loved/needed to stay up until at least 2 am, really ever since I was a kid. Through a whole lot of melatonin, rigid wake-up times and exhausting my body with tougher-than-usual workouts, I’m finally getting into a more “regular” sleep schedule though. I should be a normal human being in no time. If you have any more tips, keep them coming!

I am loving this look, that green skirt is perfetion with this leather jacket and the pop of leopard print is great. It's hard to break bad sleep habits so that is super impressive!

This look is so cute. I'm never brave enough to attempt such short skirts, but I love the way this looks on you. I'm also a night owl. I thought that at some point I would grow up and go to bed at a normal time, but that never happened. On the upside, both of my kids are night owls and sleep in (for kids….), so I seem to be pretty lucky. What is with this world full of MORNING PEOPLE? Ugh.

Black and green is such a great combo, especially with leopard! Definitely need more green in my life. I feel like that's the only color I'm lacking in my closet.

It's great that you're going to be early! Sometimes it's so hard to just wind down and go to sleep when there's so much to do, but make a bedtime routine and then it will become habit and soon you'll find yourself getting tired during the routine because you know sleep is soon. At least that's what I do when I used to stay up too late during the summer and needed to get back into a routine for school.
