The Illustrator

October 16, 2010

As a preparatory celebration of David Downtown’s book Masters of Fashion Illustration’s release next month, I wanted to share some of my favourite works by the famous and fabulous illustrator. I am a big lover of fashion illustration, both of the vintage variety and new artists too. As much as I love fashion photography, it’s always inspiring to see a beautifully crafted illustration. Even when the subject material is entirely modern, there’s something very old-worldly and glamorous about this particular field of art.

Sorry if this is an excessively photo-heavy post, but I had too many favourites!

Lovely! I'm very much interested in fashion illustration. It really makes you look at clothing in an entirely different way.

These are gorgeous. I wouldn't have been able to narrow this selection down either and I'm glad you shared them all with us. There is something so magical about illustrations. I always get so inspired to do some drawing of my own after looking at them but am quickly reminded that it is not my area of expertise!! xx

I love David Downton, so glad you shared these amazing pieces of art! I have one of his photos framed in my bedroom and the Twiggy one is on my canvas shopping bag. Can't wait for the book! xx
