Aloha friends! I literally just caught a red eye back from Maui this morning (got home 2 hours ago) so naturally, I’m not sleeping and instead, already getting into the swing of things with the holidays and going to chop a Christmas tree with my sister. Also on the agenda? Planning all my holiday looks (with my new Maui tan, of course) for all the parties, events and get-togethers on the agenda this season. This Barefoot Contessa ball skirt is an absolute must this season, especially when given a little twist. I’ve been getting more and more streamlined with my wardrobe as I get older but sometimes, you just need a statement piece like this sapphire party skirt from Barefoot Contessa. Have a standout skirt like this that you don’t know how to style? I’ve got 5 tips on pulling a look together that results in an effortlessly cool holiday look that will stand out among the typical party dresses.
1. Tie an oxford shirt like this one for a modern take on retro elegance.
I love this jolt of masculinity to an otherwise femme look, but tying it into a crop top helps highlight the waist (the most important part). Very Jenna Lyons.
2. A half-tucked cable knit sweater and stilettos.
The balance of coziness on top and sexiness on the bottom will give this party skirt new life rather than the typical camisole.
3. A leather moto jacket draped over your shoulders and a simple cami, with hair slicked back in a ponytail.
A rocker-chic take on a typically femme party look, and one that transitions well as the party progresses (just ditch the moto jacket).
4. A mariners shirt and a strong lip.
A graphic slouchy mariners shirt would look amazing against the bold colour of the skirt, and a bright lip will bring the whole thing together. If you suit glasses, make like my girl Alicia and do some bold glasses too.
5. A mohair crop top sweater and a retro ponytail or low bun.
Go for serious ’40s-’50s vibes with a super classic look but give it a modern vibe with a simple updo and clean makeup.
