Travel Far, Travel Wide, Travel Smart

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, it’s probably become abundantly clear that travel is one of my absolute greatest passions in life. Whether I’m going somewhere I’ve come to know well like Paris or off to a completely unknown destination like Greece, I literally live for the adventure, discovery and excitement that my next trip brings. Having said that, as incredible as travel is, it can be somewhat stressful financially speaking – other than major investments like a mortgage or new car, it’s hard to think of when else you’re asked to drop a pretty large sum of money virtually on the spot. Fortunately, this year I’ve been working with Interac Association on the Interac® 21 Day Credit-Free Challenge to travel with peace of mind – click through to discover how!

As you guys know, if you’ve read my first or my second update, I took part in the Interac® 21 Day Credit-Free Challenge this fall and have actually continued to implement the tips, from financial guru Gail Vaz-Oxlade, sent straight to the inbox of participants over the course of the challenge.

While I had to book my flight to Greece with my credit card (as I mentioned in my first post, there are times when a credit card is handy), all my day-to-day purchases and travel prep were made using my Interac Debit card, only spending money that was actually mine. It was such a great feeling to both pay off my credit card after booking my flight immediately and then only spend my own money to get all set for the trip – I used to get credit card bill dread at the end of my trips, when I really should’ve just been focusing on soaking up every last minute of my adventure.
Other than travel, gaining more mastery over my finances has just helped me attain far more peace of mind in general, and also made me a lot more aware of the comings-and-goings of my dollars. While I’ve been a relatively frugal sort actually for the past few years, especially in the lead-up to this trip, I really made an effort to eat at home, make use of my rewards cards (so many free coffees, snacks, etc when I actually remembered to use these cards!) and just have an overall better relationship with and commitment to my budgets (rather than setting them arbitrarily, hardly batting an eye if I massively exceeded them).
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit (hence the length of the challenge) and I’m proud to say this is one habit that I’ve officially formed!
Whether you took part or are interested in sharing your thoughts on the Interac® 21 Day Credit-Free Challenge, get talking on social media with the hashtag #21DaysCreditFree (or #21JoursSansCredit for my Francophones!).

I actually only used to use a Debit card, but a few months ago got a credit card to get a good credit score. The first month I went a little overboard, but then saw the bill and reminded myself that it's still my money I have to pay back in the end. No credit card debt for me! I definitely try to use cash as much as possible since I hate adding charges to my card!

I enjoy traveling so much especially if the place is nice and yet I can still feel the comfort of home. This is the very reason why I always look for an accommodation that I will feel comfortable in. Like when I visited Miami, I pick a place to stay from https://www.rentgetaways.com/property-miami/luxury-condo-with-impressive-city-and-ocean-views-1159 where I can enjoy the ocean view.
