I don’t know about you guys, but this past holiday season was a bit of a doozy for me. Weddings, parties and all in all, far too many martinis, bubbly and sugar. I could feel my body aching for a reboot and serendipitously, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead popped up in my suggested list on Netflix. I also had been lucky enough to get a juicer so really, while I’d given a one-day juice cleanse a try before, 2015 was really the perfect time to finally give a three-day cleanse a whirl. Ever wondered if you can even do a juice cleanse? Well, if I can do it…you can. I love food and as much as I love me some fresh-pressed juice first thing in the morning, the thought of saying bye to my coffee and food for three days seemed near-impossible. Turns out, after a bit of a rough first day, it was completely doable. Even my boyfriend did it with me! So first of all, my experience paraphrased below based off of some scribbled notes tracking how I felt over the 3 days.
My Experience
Day 1

Bad. Headaches. All. Day. Nodded off to bed far earlier than usual and found my energy levels were pretty low. I found herbal tea (lemon ginger was my favourite) to be so soothing, particularly because it’s winter and it’s cold out. Had a hot bath with clay and epsom salt (you can get my full post on the benefits of clay + my bath recipe here!), added a couple drops of lavender and had a really good soak that helped balance out my temperatures since I felt freezing all day.
Day 2

Headache still there but definitely lightening up. Any of the light hunger pangs from the day before had dissipated. Really, the only lingering thing from Day 1 was a sense of chilliness, though I’m always cold so it’s not particularly shocking. Feel pretty good and am able to run all my errands though to put it delicately, I’m definitely “cleansing” by this point (sorry, it really is the whole point of doing these cleanses though!). Headed to bed a bit earlier again and slept really well actually.
Day 3

Feel completely fine. Finally weaned off of some of my caffeine withdrawal symptoms and the initial detoxification, but not altogether not missing food too. Lots of energy at this point though but once again, feeling particularly sleepy in the evening.
And that’s…it. It was honestly not bad at all. After the first day, even my boyfriend had to admit that despite me taking away his beloved coffee and potatoes, it really was totally fine.
So moving on – most of the things to do while juice cleansing are common sense, but here are some of my top tips for your next juice cleanse.
Tips
Aim to drink 2-3 L of water at a minimum – not only will it help keep hunger pangs at bay,
it will help flush out all the toxins in your system and keep everything running smoothly too.

Stock up on your favourite herbal teas and drink them regularly throughout the day.
Dandelion root is particularly good for liver support and detoxification, but I find
ginger, chamomile and lemon particularly soothing in the evening.

Get some fresh air! Particularly on the first day, you’ll want to just lie down, but
going out for a walk or making a point of getting outside will help heaps.

Have a hot bath, get a massage, dry brush – anything that helps detoxify,
get your blood moving and warm you up.

Clear your evenings and plan for some movie-watching! You’ll want to
crash early so take advantage of the chance to get in some extra beauty sleep.
