If you guys follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you might have seen that I’m currently on a 3-day juice cleanse! On the final day today (woot!) but the weirdest thing? I kind of feel like continuing on! I’ll share why next week and my experience doing a cleanse on my own (plus lots of tips!) so stay tuned for that, but for now I can just say that doing this cleanse has been amazing in so many ways other than just the physical benefits. I had such a great time during the holidays but from October up until December, I was in great need of some lightening up both toxin-wise and mentally/emotionally as it was – throw a holiday bonanza (complete with a bachelorette, wedding, Christmas, New Year’s, and countless holiday parties) into the mix and my body and mind honestly felt pretty laden down. I’ve always placed an emphasis on eating good, whole, nutrient-rich food and getting exercise, but I never really thought much of cleansing. I’ve done a one-day juice cleanse before and have a few Whole 30’s under my belt, but going on an extended (and therefore, more disciplined) juice fast has helped me really see how much cleansing I had to do. While some of the physical symptoms initially are less than amazing (your body is, well, cleansing, plus headaches, hunger pangs, etc), when it all dissipated mid-day yesterday on Day 2 I just felt…clarity. And not just physically – my mind felt clear, I had so much more focus, I was more energized and all in all it just felt as if ridding myself of toxins physically lightened me up mentally.
It only seems fitting then that clear, fresh and bright white is a focus in today’s look. Just like our bodies and minds, during the winter months I find our wardrobes can get so dark, heavy and repetitive. Whether it’s a punch of bright colour or a more discrete impact like a dash of icy white, remembering to either purge your closet of the unnecessary or livening it up a bit with some of your summer pieces not only makes for an interesting twist on winter style, it also helps boost your mood in general.
Of course, having these snakeskin booties by Jeffrey Campbell (sole exclusively on Free People along with some other amazing JC pieces!) is reason enough to brighten up too. I’m definitely a classic type but have a soft spot for animal print, whether it’s leopard or snakeskin. I can’t wait to style these a million ways, either in basic denim skinnies and a bulky sweater or with a flouncy summer dress and leather jacket!
Hope you’re all having a wonderful week, and on the topic of cleansing and tuning into your body, stay tuned for an exciting feature tomorrow with local loves Vitruvi!
