I’m never going to complain about an extra week of summer, but this past week of sweltering heat and intense sunshine does have me scrambling a bit style-wise. After a long and agonizing goodbye to summer, I had finally come to grips with the fact that fall was on its way and I started getting into the swing of things…then the heat wave hit us. Now, I’m caught in between – on my way to work in the morning it’s still feeling distinctly fall-like, but by the time I head out for lunch I instantly regret the jeans-and-sweatshirt combo that felt so necessary earlier in the day.
This is the best I can do to stay comfortable throughout the day: the core of my look stays summery, but a fall-apropos coat can be slipped on and off as needed throughout the day. Oh, and my new obsessions (these Massimo Dutti booties) help to give a bit more of a fall vibe. They’re undoubtedly staying glued to my feet for the next few months, it might get weird.
Guess what. I’m going to my first ever wedding this weekend!!! Whenever I tell people that I mostly get this expression as a response, but it’s true…none of my friends have ever gotten married (though one of my favourites just got engaged earlier this summer, yay Lisa!), no family members are headed for the altar, etc etc. So anyway, I am very excited to see true love, a beautiful ceremony and an open bar right before my eyes. Any of you wedding vets (so…all of you) have any wedding prep/advice I need to know about?

I just bought the exact same coat this weekend – it looks perfect on you! We're getting hit with a heat wave in Edmonton as well. I'm personally all ready for fall and then it's like plus 28 in the afternoon. It's unsettling…

    Love that jacket!
Weddings are awesome, but pace yourself with the open bar- every wedding has "that girl" and you really don't want to be her! Also, bring some flats for dancing (unless you are cool with bare feet!)

Man, do I know what you mean! It was a lovely 70 degrees for a few days and now it's back to 90! Ugh. I'll be wearing a dress and booties to class today! Love your jacket!

I've actually only been to four weddings and for two of them I was still a teenager. So I'm kind of a newbie too. Hope you have fun at the wedding. And lovely coat.

Gorgeous look! Love those Massimo Dutti booties!

I hadn't been to many weddings until I met my boyfriend. He's the kind of guy who is friends with everyone (and mostly girls!) – I've lost count of how many weddings I've been to. The only advice is just to have fun, and wear that "I'm saving it for a wedding" dress you can never wear! Oh, and enjoy the open bar!

If you've never been to a wedding, it just means you're young and you haven't hit that sweet spot in your late 20s where ALL your friends are getting married at once. 🙂

My friends are starting to get married and it makes me think.. I'm getting old… or.. that I'm left behind! haha but weddings are fun! I guess if you are part of the wedding party then it's a LOT of work.. and a LOT of photo taking! By the end of the day I was pretty much all smiled out 😀

Love those boots! Are they opening a store in Vancouver?

I agree with the previous comment that weddings are a time to bring out that dress you have been saving. A lot of invitations say black tie optional, but that usually means the couple would LOVE for you to get dressed to the nines but dont want to make it a pre-requisite – so go all out! Also as good manners, do try to come up to the bride and groom as well as their individual parents and thank them for a wonderful night at some point in the evening. They will be very busy with lots of things, but if you make it a point to find them and get those 30 seconds of personal time in, its a moment they will also remember.

oh and love the whole look. xxo
