Another amazing weekend has come and gone. I left the city again to go to Pender Island with some of my favourite girls and had such a blast. Though this summer has been less about the big getaways (i.e. I haven’t had a single one) and more about the little weekend jaunts away, I feel like I’ve had the most incredible summer crammed full of a few days here with family, a few days there with friends and lots of local fun in the sun in between. It’s almost been better to have these little trips peppered throughout the summer than saving up and waiting in anticipation for one big vacation. Of course, I wouldn’t be opposed to one…but I’m completely happy with how things have turned out!
What made this weekend even better was that in keeping with what I said in my post last Friday, I made sure to really take time off all weekend. I basically gave myself a full digital detox day on Saturday (which sounds lame but when you do the kind of work I do, it’s hard to unplug!) and it was such a nice and unexpectedly relieving feeling to not think to check my phone since it was stowed away in my bedside table. I didn’t want to go completely cold turkey so I allowed myself one later afternoon check and Instagram, but other than that, I was good all day!
I got a lot of great comments and feedback to Friday’s post, including one reader sending me this Baratunde Thurston-penned article for Fast Company which details his far more extensive 25-day digital detox – definitely the inspiration for me to ditch the phone last weekend. It’s something I’m hoping to do at least one weekend day from now on, especially if I’m spending some quality time by the sea, which is the last place I should be glued to my phone anyway.
Speaking of the sea, I am deeply in love with LOVE COCO‘s stunning Ariel bracelet I’m wearing here, designed by the lovely Carolina of Closet Full of Nothing. Being the sweet and thoughtful girl that she is, Carolina already had a premonition that I’d fall for anything sea-inspired based off of my ocean-snap-filled Instagram account, and she was certainly right. It’s the perfect piece to liven up an otherwise classic casual-chic look (the short-and-T combo is my daily uniform). Can’t wait to wear it on one of my digital detox days, sitting by the water with a glass of wine and not a care (in the form of a text/email alert or phone call) in the world.
On the digital detox note, I’m curious: do you have to really pry yourself away from the phone or are you usually dying to disconnect once the weekend rolls around?

I'm glad you had such an amazing weekend! You look so pretty, I love that hat and such a pretty striped top! Lovely!

And yes, it is hard for me to be away from my phone, but sometimes it can be beneficial!

Taking a break from social media can be heard, but on vacation or when you're busy with friends hanging out on the beach it's the perfect way to unplug. When I went camping earlier this summer i didn't even look at instagram/facebook etc for 2 days.
I love this simple summer look, the striped top is such a classic piece. I am so jealous of your weekend adventures!

Love your makeup in this post! And I'm obsessed with that hat! Such a great classic look!

I usually try to disconnect on the weekends, but it's quite organic for me because I'm on a computer all day at work. So when the weekend rolls around, I don't really feel like being "connected" so to speak.

Oh stripes! Your summer sounds so fun. When it comes to my phone I have no choice but to have it on hand ever since my husband went to work on a different country. But when he is at work and I know we can't talk leaving my phone behind is not a problem.

This is so fresh & crisp, and your red lip just POPS against the black & white! I love it! And your hair is looking just gorgeous here! I have been thinking a lot lately and really noticing how much other people are on their phones and it has made me make a conscious effort to put it away when I'm hanging out with friends and family. If you've got people you love right in front of you, why do you need to constantly be texting/facebooking/instagramming/snapchatting/whatever else people do to keep them so glued to their phones? I check in randomly through out the day, but am making "real life" people my number one priority!
