Have you guys seen this article in The Everygirl recently? It’s a short read so it’s worth just checking out, but to paraphrase it, it’s just about a feeling of wanderlust or displacement that many of us feel…like we felt destined to live elsewhere, or that we just never felt completely at home in the city we’re currently living in.
I definitely don’t feel like that with Vancouver, though I do think it’s a city that is appreciated properly when you leave it often enough so that when you fly back in and see the mountains, ocean, glass and green below you, you really appreciate the city’s insane natural beauty. When I was younger, I feel like I saw a lot more of the world and consequently appreciated Vancouver a lot more.
But then I started university and life became all about school or work – I have always been really ambitious and career-focused so it doesn’t really surprise me that I was too focused on next steps career-wise to consider taking a year off to travel, or to take a chance trying to find work in a different country for that matter (namely Oz, where I’ve dreamt of living my whole life). I went on lots of great vacations over the past few years so I’m not complaining here by any means, but that proper adventure abroad hasn’t happened in 10 years and I’m beginning to feel that antsy feeling I experienced when I was 15, finally leaving Vancouver for France.
I’m a big goal setter (more on goal setting in a later post) so I’m just going to say it here so that I’m held accountable: my five year goal is to finally try out living in Australia. I don’t want to be looking back on life when I’m older and regret having never capitalized on this dream, so there…now you know and I have no excuse to not make it happen!
More than anything, I think getting away more permanently will help me appreciate all the things that I treasure most about the West Coast even more. One thing that’s really special and unique to the West Coast (specifically the Sunshine Coast, where my cabin is) is its crazy abundance of berries. This Boutique Onze dress reminds me so much of this very specific vibrant purple stain our garden’s blackberries and raspberries leave everywhere after we pick them. It’s the prettiest cassis hue – even better, it will transition perfectly into fall. Can’t wait to wear this piece with these new booties I just landed thanks to Massimo Dutti (stay tuned for some exciting news about MD) and a leather jacket!
Do you guys have any country or city you’ve always dreamt of living in but haven’t gotten to yet?

I've always felt out of place in my home town, my home country for that matter. Last year after proper consideration hubby and I decided to move to Canada. And we are making it happen. However my dream place to live would be Italy. So once in Canada my goal will be to at least be able to vacation in Italy.

I'd love to live in Ireland. Or England. Or France!

Funny you should post this, I was just looking at different job opportunities around the world and was hoping to teach English in Germany in the next 5 years. Why not? I agree with you – I don't want to look back on my life when I'm old and see that I was completely boring and didn't live life to its fullest. Australia sounds like it would be perfect for you!

Lovely dress! Raspberry is such a gorgeous color on you!

That dress is amazing! The color is gorgeous! Seriously, you should just wear this color forever! I've never felt like I should live somewhere else, but I have always wanted to visit London. It just feels like I place that would be so me that it's hard to explain. If I do live there for a short while that would be lovely.
