Keep the Colour

When Dove Canada asked me to test out their amazing Colour Care products on a new hair colour, I’m not going to lie…I was petrified. I wasn’t worried about the health of my hair since Dove’s arsenal of colour protection products would ensure amazing hair health. What I was really scared about was just making a change – I’d had so many bad hair experiences in the past that I’ve become really fearful of making big changes. I finally found a cut I love, so I was worried it’d be a cut-or-colour situation…you know, either one is amazing or the other but not both.
Well, thankfully my lighter colour (courtesy of Calvyn Cass) has completely given me the boost I needed and I love it. I was feeling like I was stuck in a beauty rut and the lighter tone is not only perfect for summer, but it’s inspired me try a little bit more – I style my hair more often now, and actually get excited to try out new updos or styles (a feeling I never really had before).
As much as I love my new colour, there are a few things I’m doing now that my hair is no longer au naturel:
1. I do a shock of cold water at the end of my showers now,
which smooths down the hair follicle, minimizing damage.
2. I would use hair oil sporadically before, but now I use it
after every shower, massaging it into my newly-coloured ends.
3. I comb more carefully once I get out of the shower: start at the
bottoms and work through tangles as you go up your hair shaft.
4. If I can anticipate when I’ll be heat styling with a curling iron or
straightener, I make sure to air dry my hair overnight to cut back on
damage through heat styling – the more you can minimize it, the better!

Now that I have this colour I love, these tricks + my Dove products have been put in heavy rotation! What hair care tips do you have? Also, are you planning on switching up your colour for the summer?

You are so pretty! I never used dove's hair care products, have used their line of body soaps though. I learned about the cold water hair shock treatment back in September from the girl who dyed my hair. Never knew that was thing, and it looks in your color esp if you do a red since red dye usually fades quicker. Anyway thanks for the helpful tips!

Your hair color and cut turned out great. You look beautiful. I have never colored my hair, I am not good with maintenance so that is the reason I don't do it.

Your hair definitely looks gorgeous, I've never tried any of the dove hair products, I might have to now! I always rinse my hair in cold water, and it suucks in the winter, but keeps the colour so nice

Hair and makeup look gorgeous! I think I have to try this product. I usually just use the regular dove shampoo.

Your hair looks beautiful! I rinse with cold water too, and I shampoo only a few days per week to preserve color. I also wear hats when outdoors, and started using Nuxe oil on the tips. Haven't tried Dove hair products in ages, but I used to use their hair spray though!
