Scarf Trick

I was loosely completely inspired by this Tommy Ton-snapped pic for this outfit:

As I was snapping through all the pics of the street style at couture and menswear shows, I was thinking to myself that as much as I’m a die-hard brights person, the whole print-upon-print-upon-statement-necklace-upon-beaded-shoes-upon-apple-hat thing was actually starting to feel less bold and more old (I RHYMED! +1 for me). I’m not saying I don’t still worship at the altar of colourful risk-takers and mix-and-matchers like TTH, ADR and basically the entire Russian fashion-pack, but I will say that every time I saw someone like the pretty lady above who made their statement in a slightly more subtle way, it was like a breath of fresh air.
I think especially given how much of a circus fashion show street style has become too, it’s nice to see someone who doesn’t look at least like they’re dressed for the photographers.
Anyway, the beginning and end of it really though is that I loved her inventive way of tying her scarf. It’s almost a more delicate, Parisian-with-a-twist alternative to a statement necklace, you know?
And yet again I’ve slept in way too late so I need to jet off to work, agh sorry guys will get to all my comments on your lovely blogs soon!
Happy Thursday 🙂
I am always looking for a new way to wear a scarf. Thanks!

Amen sister!! Lately all the over-the-top looks have been pushing me towards more simple, subtle, minimalist outfits. I love what you said about her outfit not trying to be too attention grabbing. And your rework of it is lovely!

This is such a chic idea I may have to steal it from you! And I hear you on how street fashion seems circus-like. So many outfits these days seem like they're donned for the sole purpose of getting attention.
oh so pretty! love that dress + scarf! x

What great inspiration! The scarf tied around the neckline of the dress is simple and yet makes such a great style impact that definitely has that Parisian chic factor. Think I'm going to have to give this one a try 🙂

I am devastatingly behind on blog reading because we have guests. And I don't even have time to comment properly, but I just had to say… That scarf/dress combo are seriously a match made in heaven. Gorgeous, pally!

I love it, and I definitely agree with you about how the whole more-is-more look is starting to look tired to me. I'm a person who already leans toward simplicity (with a twist, but still). I read a great quote recently that said something like, "minimalism isn't a small amount of something but rather the exact right amount of something," and that really inspired me a lot that it's okay to just wear one statement at a time. I mean, whatever the twist of the outfit is, you notice it more when it's the only (or one of the only) pop-out pieces in a simple outfit.
And, I totally love how the scarf makes your dress look almost like a sailor dress (which was my number one style obsession as a kid — and, let's face it, I still totally own one and wear it sometimes to my boyfriends bemusement).
Love hilo dresses!!
