Hometown Glory – Part One

Aside from the feature on Elle.com of the wonderful Paul Melo of Style Quotient’s Vancouver street style snaps, our city’s fashion community very rarely has a spotlight shone on it.  It’s sad, really, because Vancouver is quite literally overflowing with talent.  Case in point?  In order to show you my favourite bloggers from my hometown, I need to break this feature into two posts.  So, without any further ado, it is my great pleasure to deliver my city’s greatest to you – please take a second to check out their sites, and stay posted for part two!

Meet Lily, the face behind the visually striking and emotionally moving blog Bleed For Fashion.  She somehow manages to always look incredibly chic and pulled-together yet still edgy – it doesn’t hurt that the girl can not take a bad picture either.  I visit her blog regularly not only for her amazing styling, but also for her moving diary-like entries.  I’ve always admired people who can express themselves openly, and I especially admire Lily for being so honest and expressive on her blog.

You might have seen Jen of her waise choice before…we met for the first time (along with Mina, whose blog is also featured in this post) at the Obakki fashion show last week!  Aside from being one of the sweetest people ever (along with her lovely boyfriend, David, who very kindly treated us all to dinner that night!), Jen has an incredible eye for fashion and never looks anything short of amazing.  She’s off on a Europe trip soon so if you don’t already follow her, get on it now!  Her images from Europe will undoubtedly be incredible.

Not only is Nicole of le mode du jour one of the loveliest bloggers I’ve ever met in person, she’s also one of the busiest.  She blog regulary (which, as any of us bloggers know, is a big enough time commitment in and of itself), works in public relations and contributes to The Style Spy.  I’m sure she also has another dozen or so projects up her sleeve at the moment that I don’t even know about.  She is the quintessential West-Coast girl-about-town, and her chic style reflects that.

I met Mina of Faboulista along with Jen the other night and was so taken by her beautifully eclectic styling and personable presence.  I love that she takes risks with fashion, and fortunately for her (and us, her readers), they always work out in her favor.  Mina brings some much-needed glamour to a city that can at times be juuust a little overrun by Lululemon and hoodies.

Like Nicole, Niki of A Haute Mess is beyond busy.  She not only blogs but is a publicist and the co-operator of Social Chair, a fashion and lifestyle PR firm, a contributor to MTV Canada’s blog FORA, and a staple on the Vancouver fashion social scene.  Aside from her awesome style, the thing about Niki that keeps me coming back for more is her insane sense of humor.  Her tweets never fail to make me literally laugh out loud and her posts are always written in such a personable and hilarious way.

I hope you all get a chance to check out these lovely ladies’ blogs, and stay tuned for the sequel – some familiar faces and a couple new ones will be featured!  And happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there!  Hope you got a wonderful day of rest and relaxation 🙂

Alex, I am so flattered that you chose to feature me, especially among the ranks of these other ladies! Thanks for being such a great supporter of the humble Vancouver fashion scene… it's a breath of fresh air and seeing as our city is so small, it IS so important to help each other out. I'm glad we met at Obakki and got to share dinner together, am looking forward to meeting again!

I always love posts like these… It seems no matter how many great blogs I find, there are still so many more out there- many of them written by girls who are very close to home! I know about half of these blogs already, but will definitely be stopping by the rest later today 🙂 Fabulous feature, darling! You must be getting so excited for Mexico by now 😉

Ok, finally! Sorry I couldn't comment when you first posted this, I didn't have my laptop with me in Vancouver so I was doing everything via iPhone, and typing on that thing drives me nuts. Any way! LOVE the post, and like everyone else, it is an honor not just to be chosen by you, but to also be amongst some mighty fine company as well. And to reply to your tweet, you are lovely whether you think so or not haha. So on that note, THANK YOU for including me in this post, you are too kind. Hopefully I'll run into you again soon! Have a great weekend xo
